Bob Dylan’s Modern Times has been named the best album of 2006 by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Dylan’s first studio album in five years came ahead of Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in second place with Sonic Youth’s Rather Ripped in third.

The highest placed British act were the Arctic Monkeys at 17 with their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. Also in the top 50 were Goldfrapp’s Supernature at 32 and Thom Yorke’s The Eraser at 34.
