Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland told MTV.com yesterday (Tuesday, December 12th) that he hasn't been "this excited about a rock record since 1993," referring to the band's second album, Libertad, which it began recording on December 4th. Weiland called Velvet Revolver's sophomore effort "a really inspired rock and roll album, but it's got many textures...(The other band members have) reached completely new heights, and pulled something out of themselves. Instead of doing what's completely comfortable, what they've done before, they have gone to new places, emotionally, musically and spiritually."
Although Weiland first envisioned Libertad as a concept album, he scrapped that idea because "there's been a hurricane of concept albums that have come out this year."
Early song titles include "Pills, Demons, Etc.," "Just 16," "Get Out The Door," and "Queen For A Day."
The band is recording the album with producer Brendan O'Brien, who's worked with Audioslave, Pearl Jam and Weiland's former group, Stone Temple Pilots. An initial stint with producer Rick Rubin did not work out for reasons still left unexplained.
Velvet Revolver plans to release Libertad next spring. Weiland is also working on his second solo album, which he hopes will surface in the fall of 2007 on his own label, Softdrive Records.
Weiland added that he is also writing his autobiography, is thinking about starting his own fashion line, and is interested in acting.
