If you like the new Doors book titled The Doors By The Doors, some of the credit belongs to noted rock journalist Ben Fong-Torres. The long-time Rolling Stone writer and editor has known the guys since they first hit the scene, and he paired interview material with the late Jim Morrison and his father with new, in-depth chats done with Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, and John Densmore. In fact, Densmore told us that Fong-Torres was central to his own involvement in the process: "Getting Ben was the key for me because, you know, he's a peer who went through the whole era, wrote a book himself, and... I just, I was very comfortable with the questions he asked. And he was very... he didn't waste time, he just cut to the chase, and I just let him lead me."
Fong-Torres has several other books to his credit, including Not Fade Away: A Backstage Pass To 20 Years Of Rock & Roll, which is a collection of his interviews with stars that was published in 1999, and the more personal Becoming Almost Famous, which was released this year.
In other news, Densmore recently filed for divorce from his wife, documentary maker Leslie Neale. The couple was married for 16 years, and Densmore is seeking joint custody of their 14-year-old daughter Luka. The divorce petition, which was filed last Friday (December 8th) in Los Angeles, cites irreconcilable differences as the cause of the split. - Bruce Simon (IcebergRadio)
