Doobie Brothers singer-guitarist Tom Johnston has teamed up with the folks at C.F. Martin to produce a new acoustic guitar. The Doobie Brothers Tom Johnston Signature model will be introduced in Los Angeles in January, during the annual NAMM music merchants convention. The instrument is a version of Martin's popular D-42 model that's been "Doobie-ized" with the logo from the band's 1989 album Cycles on the headstock, and each guitar is hand-signed by Johnston. There's no word yet on pricing, or when the guitars will go on sale.
Others who've been honored with Martin Signature guitars include Peter Frampton, Byrds leader Roger McGuinn, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Steven Stills, and Graham Nash.
The Doobie Brothers are on an extended break from touring. They head back out on the road beginning February 3rd in Kelseyville, California.
