Jack White Giving His All to Make Tidal a Success

Popular singer and Third Man Records founder Jack White has been vocal in his desire to see consumers support musicians rather than acquiring music illegally. Last week, the former White Stripes frontman took part in a Q&A where he fielded questions from Facebook followers about his involvement in Tidal, the Jay-Z owned premium streaming service that aims to put more money into the hands of artists when their music is streamed online. "Don't devalue musicians, man; support them" White said in response to a question about why fans should pay for music rather than getting it from free resources like YouTube and Spotify's freemium service. "Making records is expensive, believe us. I don't see people saying we should go to the movies for free, or Netflix should be free. That state of music is in flux. Be on the side of supporting creativity, not taking from it. This gives you that chance."

White has been integral in Tidal's development in recent weeks, even allowing subscribers exclusive access a recent concert in North Dakota. The singer even personally called hundreds of Tidal subscribers that are fans of his music to thank them for supporting Tidal. Following his Q&A session last week, White also penned a poem entitled "Music Is Sacred" that expounds on the themes he discussed at the Q&A. Read the poem below.

"Music Is Sacred" by Jack White

those of you who stand for the sanctity of music

so that its soul can breathe

and be heard

so that it blooms in graveyards

echoes in hotel hallways

awakens neighbors in the night

and fills peoples minds with fire

shout it out loud with whatever microphone you have

or these stones will shout for you.

jump in front of demons,

and stand over cowards and those who would intend

to rip out your lungs and dampen your desire

tell the living and the dead

what you know in your heart to be true

and what you know your ears

will forever hear

that the melody of the human race

is a song that never ends.

music is sacred.
