Universal Music Posts 7.5 Percent Surge in Revenue

Universal Music Group's parent company revealed its first quarter results last week, posting a 7.5 percent increase in overall revenue, marking three straight years if revenue growth.  Vivendi also enjoyed a surge of nearly 40 percent in earnings before interest, taxation and amortization, citing "growth in subscription and streaming revenues more than offset the decline in both digital download sales and physical sales."   The earnings report also mentioned albums from Madonna, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, as well as the soundtrack for Fifty Shades of Gray, as growth boosters; as well as carryover sales of 2013 records from Sam Smith and Taylor Swift.  UMG's parent also benefited from 6.6 percent revenue growth at Vivendi Village, a branch that runs two European ticketing agencies and several other ventures.
