Popular British crooner Sam Smith announced Thursday that he will have to undergo vocal cord surgery following a hemorrhage he suffered while on tour in Australia last month. "I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days," the singer revealed in a Facebook post. "But unfortunately they haven't recovered and I am going to need surgery. I'm so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at." The injury occurred at an April 28th appearance in Sidney, and prompted the singer to cancel his remaining tour stops in Australia. With Thursday's announcement, Smith canceled his remaining scheduled tour dates through June, as doctors prescribed about eight weeks rest following the surgery. Smith is just the latest well known singer to need vocal cord surgery, as Adele, Bjork and Keith Urban have had similar procedures in the last few years.
