Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney have been named the top songwriters of all time by fans responding to a MusicRadar survey conducted in honor of their Songwriting Week. The pair are responsible for hundreds of songs collectively that MusicRadar contends "changed, challenged and defined the times with a beauty that still feels endless." The rest of the top five songwriters on the list are, in order: Bob Dylan, Queen, Neil Young and Nirvana frontman Kurt Kobain. Perhaps the biggest surprises on the list: Oasis singer Noel Gallagher at position 8 on the poll is ahead of such music legends as Led Zeppelin duo Robert Plant and Jimmy Paige (12) and Radiohead (9).
