Legendary Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler was asked about his departed former bandmate Ronnie James Dio in a recent interview held Tuesday, on what would have been the singer's 70th birthday. Ronnie should have been celebrating and probably would have been if hed had his health checked regularly, Butler noted. I once asked him if hes ever thought about retiring. He said he would make that decision on his 70th birthday. That is why today is so poignant. I think I know what his decision would have been.
Born July 10th 1942, Ronnie James Dio rose to become one of the most accomplished singers in heavy metal history as the frontman for RItchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band, Dio. The singer passed away in May 2010 at the age of 67.
