Florence + the Machine canceled a pair of concerts in Spain and Portugal on Wednesday due to a vocal injury sustained by frontwoman Florence Welch, who revealed the news on Twitter. "Yes it's true ... it finally happened, I've lost my voice," the singer explained on her official Twitter feed. "I've sustained a vocal injury and been told I cannot sing for a week...seriously I felt something snap, it was very frightening." Doctors have ordered Welch to stop performing immediately to avoid permanent damage. The singer did not mention any other dates being canceled, though conditions initially described as "vocal injuries" have kept John Mayer and Adele sidelined for months.
The first date canceled was a Friday appearance at the Benicassim music festival on Spain's eastern coast, named after a city halfway between Barcelona and Valencia. The second show canceled was Saturday's stop at the Optimus Alive! event, held in Oeiras, Portugal about 30 minutes west of Lisbon. Florence + the Machine are in the midst of a summer festival tour that kicked off in April at Coachella and is set to return to North America next Friday with a non-festival performance at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.
