Legendary thrashers Metallica have contributed to efforts by the FBI to find a man suspected in the October 2009 death of a Virginia Tech student who disappeared following a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Frontman James Hetfield recorded a public service announcement asking for fans to come forward with tips.
The victim, 20 year-old Morgan Harrington, was discovered, flesh already decayed down to the bone, in a field about 10 miles from the concert venue, authorities said. DNA material from the suspect was also found, according to police, and matched with DNA found in a sexual assault case in Fairfax City in 2005. A desccription provided by the victim in that case allowed authorities to put together a composite sketh which will be posted all up and down the eastern seaboard.
In addition to Hetfield's involvement in the PSA, the band has also offered a $50,000 reward for information, on top of a $100,000 reward offered by Jefferson area Crime Stoppers. Check out James' PSA below.
Also, the sketch of the suspect is posted below. If you recognize the man in the drawing please contact Detective Mike Boone at (705) 385-7959.
