The San Mateo County Coroner's Office announced on Tuesday it has ruled the March 3rd death of guitar legend Ronnie Montrose a suicide. According to the report, Montrose died at the age of 64 last month from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The details surrounding his tragic death had been kept under wraps by his family, who acknowledged the coroner's report with a statement on Wednesday morning.
Montrose was well-respected throughout the rock & roll community, forming his onw band Montrose in 1973 but also performing with Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs and Herbie Hancock, among others. Sammy Hagar, who would later go on to front Van Halen and Chickenfoot, made his recording debut as the frontman for Montrose.
