Original Metallica Lineup Reunites for 30th Anniversary Shows

Die-hard Metallica fans were treated to a rare sight over the weekend as the band's original lineup, including Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, got together on a stage for the first time since 1982 to perform the classic, "Hit the Lights."  Check out some fan-filmed footage of the performance below.

In addition to Mustaine, the performance also featured bassist Ron McGovney, who left the band before their debut album "Kill 'em All," but did appear on the original version of "Hit the Lights," which made its debut on a "Metal Massacre" compilation.  That version also featured the guitar work of Lloyd Grant, who also showed up for the reunion performance.

Mustaine was fired from Metallica in 1983 when the band tired of his drug use.  He went on the form Megadeth, a hugely successful band in its own right.  He reunited onstage with Metallica over the last couple of years during the Big Four shows, but had not performed a Metallica song in 28 years.  The reunion occurred during the final of four special shows at San Francisco's Fillmore Theater put on by the band to celebrate its 30th Anniversary.  Admission to the shows was limited to members of the Metallica fan club.
