Rapper, movie star, and Hollywood heavyweight Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, have reportedly acquired a minority stake in the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers franchise. According to a report from CSN Philly, the power couple joined a group led by multibillionaire Joshua Harris in a bid to acquire the team from Comcast-Spectacor. Harris held a press conference Tuesday morning to announce he had bought the team, with Will and Jada involved.
Owning a part of the 76ers is a natural fit for Smith, who grew up in Philadelphia as a huge fan of the historic team, and can often be seen with Jada courtside at the team's home games. Unfortunately, the team appears set to skip a season as the NBA's lockout of its players has already forced the cancellation of the first two weeks of the season and an end does not appear close, according to sources familiar with the labor negotiations.
