ESPN Pulls Hank Williams Song from Monday Night Football

ESPN announced on Monday it would no longer use the Hank Williams Jr. song, "All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night" to open its broadcasts of Monday Night Football.  The move was in response to Williams' comments on the Fox News Channel's morning show, "Fox & Friends."  Williams was asked about Ptresident Obama's well-publicized golf outing earlier this year and said:  "It'd be like Hitler playing golf with (Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu."

ESPN issued the following statement prior to Monday night's game between the Colts and the Buccaneers:  "While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to 'Monday Night Football,'" ESPN said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

ESPN did not say whether the song, a revamped version of the singer's 1984 hit All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight," would be used to open future broadcasts of the show.  The song has been a staple of Monday Night Football games since 1989 and won Williams Jr. four Emmy Awards in the early 90s.
