The Los Angeles Board of Public Works on Wednesday denied a permit for the 31st annual Sunset Junction Festival, which was set to take place this weekend. As a result, organizers announced the event will be canceled for the first time in its history. The reason given for the denial of the permit was that the festival's organizers owe close to $400,000 to the city for various services. The permit was initially turned down on Monday, and organizers took to Twitter to try to raise funds, but were only able to raise a fraction of the amount needed. The festival was scheduled to kick off Saturday, with six stages and over 100 acts including Butthole Surfers, Lil' Jon, Bobby Womack and others.
