Legendary Mountain guitarist Leslie West reportedly had to have his lower right leg amputated on Saturday due to complications caused by his Type 2 diabetes. The emergency surgery took place at a Biloxi, Mississippi hospital after he sought treatment when his leg began to swell and his ffot went septic. Doctors attempted to save the leg, but were forced to sever the limb to prevent the infection from spreading.
The 65 year-old is expected to recover from the surgery, but will have to undergo months of rehabilitation. The guitarist was working on a new album titled "The Usual Suspects", but the album, which will reportedly feature contributions from ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Guns n' Roses' Salsh, will likely be put on hold until West recovers.
