Another day, another milestone for pop mega-star Lady Gaga. Billboard reported Tuesday that Gaga's new "Born This Way" album will debut on its Billboard 200 album chart Wednesday with a staggering 1,108,000 copies sold in its first week. Since SoundScan began tracking album sales in 1991, only 16 have sold a million copies in a week until "Born this Way," and it's the biggest one-week sales total for any album since 2005.
Of the 1.1 million copies, 662,000 were digital sales. Not surprising given the promotion run on Amazon in which the retailer offered the new album on its first day of release for just 99 cents. The promotion went over so well that Amazon's servers were overloaded, and some shoppers had difficulty downloading the files, so Amazon allowed those who purchased it that first day to download it.
