Detroit-raised rocker Kid Rock was given the NAACP's Great Expectations Award at a ceremony in his home town Sunday night. The organization honored the singer, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, despite expressions of protest stemming from the fact that Ritchie utilizes a Confederate flag during his concerts. "I love America. I love Detroit, and I love black people," the singer told a crowd of about 10,000 at the Detroit NAACP branch's annual fundraising event at the Cobo Center.
