Billboard announced Thursday that Rihanna's "S&M" will climb from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Hot 100 singles chart, due Friday.  The single is the R&B star's tenth to sit atop the chart, giving her the distinction of going the shortest time between her first and tenth chart-toppers for a solo artist.  Rihanna's first topped the Billboard chart the week of May 13, 2006 with "SOS", and now reigns atop the list with her tenth No. 1 four years and eleven and a half months later. 

The previous shortest span between an artist's first and tenth No. 1s was five years, four months by Mariah Carey.  Rihanna trails only the Beatles (one year, eight months, one week) and the Supremes (two years, eight months, three weeks) in terms of quickest path from first to tenth top single.  At jsut 23 years, two months, Rihanna also earns the distinction of being the youngest artist in the Hot 100's 52-year history to earn 10 No. 1 singles, surpassing the previous mark set by Carey of 25 years, eight months.
