R&B singer D'Angelo pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of disorderly conduct stemming from an incident in March 2010 when he allegedly tried to pay $40 for sex to an undercover police officer.
The plea deal means the singer dodges a criminal bullet, despite his lengthy rap-sheet, as disorderly conduct is a violation punishable by a small fine rather than a crime. The Prosecutor in the case said that Archer had satisfied certain conditions as part of the plea deal, which he declined to reveal. Archer's defense attorney, Stacey Richman, declined to comment.
The 37 year old, born Michael Archer, rose to prominence in the late 1990s and won the 2000 Grammy Awards for Best R&B vocal performance with "Untitled" and Best R&B Album with the platinum-certified "Voodoo."
