Pop supestar Lady Gag has made music history again, though this time it was almost by accident. The singer's latest single, "Born this Way," debuted at No. 1 on Boillboard's Hot 100 singles chart, becomin the 1,000th song to achieve the feat in the chart's 52-year history. It is also just the 19th song to debut atop the list.
"It is a tremendous honor," Gaga told Billboard about the honor. "To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard...I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career."
"I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way,' " Gaga added. "[It] has been so life changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers...I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have."
The song also, after just three days worth of sales at online retailers, became the biggest-selling digital track in its first week by a female artist. "Born the Way" was downloaded an eye-popping 448,000 times, surpassing Briney Spears' "Hold It Against Me," which moved 411,000 downloads in its first week.
