The Prince concert that was supposed to take place Friday night in Dallas never materialized, and the reason behind the cancellation of the event is being debated by Prince representatives and the event's organizers. The first hint of trouble for the concert appeared early Friday afternoon, when a statement of disappointment was released by the Goss-Michael Foundation, the George Michael-founded charity that was to benefit from the concert's proceeds.
"It is our understanding that River Alexander Group, the event organizer, was unable to fund and produce the evening," the statement read. "The organizer came to The Goss-Michael Foundation, invited us to be the beneficiary and receive some of the proceeds which would have gone to our high school scholarship program."
Oddly, the foundation rescinded the statement shortly after issuing it, saying: "Prince has arrived in Dallas and will perform this evening." But the show was first moved from a tent near Downtown Dallas to a hotel just north of Dallas, then it never took place at all. A source close to Prince's camp, speaking anonymously, said that Prince had never even made it to Dallas because organizers never sceduled transportation for he and his band.
Fans who had tickets to the event were outraged because they were unaware teh show wasn't taking place until they showed up for the concert.
