Legendary Y&T bassist Phil Kennemore passed away over the weekend from lung cancer at Stanford Hospital in California.  Kennemore, who was 57, was surrounded by family members when he succumbed to the deadly disease.  Kennemore's bandmate, singer Dave Meniketti, confirmed the news in a blog post Sunday morning.

"As a musician, with those huge fingers, his bass playing was always loud, strong, and deep, filling the largest or smallest of stages equally," Meniketti wrote. "I will miss his sense of humor, his amazing wit, but most of all I will always miss not seeing him to my left on the stages I will play from this moment forward."

Y&T originally formed in 1972, releasing their debut album 4 years later.  The band enjoyed it highest level of success in the 80s with hits like "Mean Streak" and "Summertime Girls," touring with such metal heavyweights as Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, and Aerosmith.  The band released its latest album, "Facemelter," last May.
