Land Grants Awarded for Redwood Conservation Programs

The nonprofit Save the Redwoods League announced the recipients of its education grants last week. The organization, dedicated to preserving the redwood trees and their environments, awarded more than $100k to 39 schools and nonprofits throughout California, including three based in the Marin County area. Awen Grove in Fairfax received $2,000 for their Youth Quest project, which offers middle school students the opportunity to participate in redwood ecology outdoor after school activities. $3,000 was awarded to the Canal Child Care Center for its Marin Redwood Project, a program that educates children and their families about the benefits of protecting the redwood forests. And, to fund its My Home, My Community, My World program, YMCA Point Bonita was given $3,000. Participants in this program learn about the ecology of the redwood forests and take a field trip to Muir Woods.
