Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has filed a civil lawsuit against Florida Governor Charlie Crist seeking $1 million in damages. The suit alleges that Crist used the 1985 Talking Heads song, "Road to Nowhere", in ads that attacked Marco Rubio, who was running against Crist in the Republican primary for governor. Byrne's attorneys said that the $1 million he's seeking is based on previous offers to use Byrne's music. Rubio, meanwhile, was accused in the same campaign of using the song "Road to Nowhere", from the Steve Miller Band during the same campaign. Miller issued a statement saying that, "The Steve Miller Band and Steve Miller do not endorse Marco Rubio's campaign or any political candidates and respectfully request that Mr. Rubio learn more about publishing law and intellectual property rights. I also ask that in the future he extends me the courtesy of asking permission before using my songs." The ad was subsequently stopped, and a representative for Miller says the matter has been settled to his satisfaction.
