Former heartthrob Corey Haim was pronounced dead at 2:15 am Wednesday morning. The actor had entered Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Los Angeles County after Haim's mother, whom he shared an apartment with, called paramedics at around 1:30 AM. The actor apparently had been experiencing flulike symptoms for the last few days, but it wasn't until Haim got out of bed and collapsed to his knees that the phone call was made. Found by his bed were prescription drugs as well as over-the-counter medications.
"He could have succumbed to whatever (flu like symptoms) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?" Police Sgt. William Mann said. "He has had a drug problem in the past."
Corey's mom told radaronline.com this morning, "I am a cancer victim and Corey was helping me at home......He was a good boy. I'm devastated by his death." Haim's ongoing drug problem has been highly publicized for years. He recently was in the show, "The Two Coreys", but it was cancelled after two seasons. Fellow actor and former best friend Corey Feldman, who co-starred with Haim in the show & past movies, says that Haim's drug use put a strain on their relationship. In the final season of "The Two Coreys" the two went as far as not talking to each other anymore.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the actual cause of death. No foul play is suspected.
Haim's assets were a few thousand dollars in cash, royalty rights and clothing.
