Billboard announced yesterday that Lady Gaga will be the recipient of it's "Rising Star" award at this year's Billboard Women in Music ceremony.  Lady Gaga burst onto the pop scene with her debut album, "the Fame", which produced a pair of #1 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 ("Just Dance" and "Poker Face") and has sold more than 1.4 million copies. The singles are also the number 2 and 8 highest selling digital tracks of all time. Gaga wrote all the songs on her debut album, and inthe past, has written songs for Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat Dolls.

The Billboard Women in Music event will be held on October 2nd in New York City. Beyonce will be awarded with the prestigous "Woman of the Year" Award.
