Smashing Pumpkins announced on their website yesterday they are officially welcoming Mike Byrne, 19, of Portland Oregon as their new drummer. Byrne, who will play drums on the next album and go on tour with the band, calls the opportunity a dream come true. Byrne was chosen from more than a thousand drummers the band auditioned to replace Jimmy Chamberlain.
