Ron Keel Gives Update After Rocklahoma

Here's an update from vocalist Ron Keel, after playing with KEEL at Rocklahoma.

A week's gone by, the smoke has cleared, we're unpacked and back to work on the recording's now or never to mention last week's festival gig, Rocklahoma 2009.

On behalf of the band, we want to thank the many people off the stage who made the event happen. Our crew and entourage, the Rocklahoma crew and staff, and especially the fans who braved the heat to support the bands and the music. We were proud to be on the bill and really enjoyed our time on stage, as well as the three hours of media, radio, & meet & greets that followed the performance.

It started with our backstage interview with Eddie Trunk from VH1/Sirius Radio - Eddie is a long-time supporter of KEEL and it was great to come full circle with him 25 years after he, as a young DJ, spun the hell out of "The Right To Rock" on his New York radio program and helped it become a hit for us.

By the time we hit the stage at 4:45, the heat was at its peak. The smiles, the fists in the air, and the music made it all worthwhile - we'd looked forward to this one, and we'll hold on to the memories for a long time. On the sides of the stage were the event's promoter, Dave Geinke, our agent Sullivan Bigg, our wives, our kids, our friends, our crew, Eddie Trunk - some close friends who had shared the stage with us in previous bands - Ryan Cunningham, the 8-year old boy with Cystic Fibrosis that we brought out the Rocklahoma with his mom and dad. Out in the audience: hard core KEELaholics from South America - Japan - Australia - Europe - Canada - and across the USA.

It was Bryan Jay's birthday - one of the high points of the show was Miss Rocklahoma presenting him with his birthday cake...

Aside from wireless microphone drop outs (which happened to all the acts, all weekend) we felt good about the gig and really appreciated the opportunity to include this event as the climax of our summer shows. We are carrying the energy, enthusiasm and support with us as we spend the next couple of months working on vocals and guitar solos for the new album "Streets Of Rock N Roll."

Thanks again to everyone involved: Our crew Jon Rich/Jef Hickey/Dave Stremel/DJ Wil, Renee Keel - Photography, Kelly & Myra for the guest appearance, Tina Bigg, Sullivan Bigg, Sam McCaslin, Aaron Fischer, Shannon Champion, our merch company Garrett Enterprises/Mark Hypes - our sponsors Monster Energy Drinks - Dean Guitars - EVH Guitars and Gear - Sfarzo Strings - LaBella Strings - Vic Firth Drumsticks - In Tune Guitar Picks - everybody we just forgot to mention - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and we're looking forward to the next show...
