According to a fire department official in Marseille, France, a stage being built for a Madonna concert collapsed yesterday, killing one and injuring 6 others. The stage at the Stade Velodrome collapsed on top of several workers. Two of the injuries were deemed serious. All injured workers were transported to local hospitals. The cause of the collapse is unknown at this time. Madonna was scheduled to perform on Sunday as part of her Sticky & Sweet Tour, but the concert has been cancelled.

Madonna released the following statement: "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news." The singer was not in Marseilles during the accident, as she is scheduled to perform tonight, July 16th, at Udine, Italys Stadio Friuli.
