BandCamp Update Allows Artists to Sell Discographies at Discount

Bandcamp is looking to become the Sam's Club of digital music sales as they recently allowed artists a way to sell their entire discographies to fans at a special bulk price. In order to qualify for the bundling feature, artists must have at least three albums for sale on the site. Discounts can be set for the bundled package at anywhere from zero to 90 percent, and the feature is available to artists that manage their own Bandcamp accounts or labels that manage artists whose music is sold there. The company issued a Blog post recently claiming that should every eligible artist sign up for the new bundling feature, they could see "about $1.8 million in bundles sell over the next few weeks. So get on it!"

This is certainly ot the first time Bandcamp has made moves aimed at increasing sales for artists. Earlier this year, the company began accepting all major credit cards and allowed users to check out at one time for multiple purchases (users had previously been required to check out once for each artist they bought music from). Bandcamp allows artists to distribute their music without using labels for distribution, with the company taking about 15 percent for digital downloads and about 10 percent for physical sales.
