The surviving members of the iconic rap group N.W.A. Will reunite later this month, according to an announcement from Black Entertainment Television (BET). Scheduled for June 27th, the concert will also feature performances from other West Coast rappers Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q. The concert is tied to the upcoming release of a documentary, Straight Outta Compton, which is set for an August release. The concert was primarily organized by NWA member Ice Cube, who will perform for the first time since 1989 with fellow NWA'er DJ Yella and for the first time in 15 years with MC Ren.
What is not clear is whether Ice Cube, Yella and Ren will be joined by the final surviving member of NWA, Dr. Dre. Dre and Cube have not performed together since 2000, and Ice Cube seemed unsure if Dre will make an appearance at the reunion show. "I hope he blesses us with his presence," was Cube's only response when asked if Dre will take part. Dre has become one of the most renowned entrepreneurs in all of music in recent years with his role in Death Row Records and Beats Audio. Founded with producer Jimmy Iovine, Dre sold Beats to Apple for a reported $3 billlion last year. The final member of NWA, Eazy-E, passed away in 1995 due to complications related to AIDS.
The NWA reunion concert will be televised on June 27 on BET as part of the network's four day BET Experience. The four-day even t will feature a variety of hio-hop and R&B-tehemed programming, with the centerpiece being the network's annual awards show, which takes place the following night.
