Being a member of ngland's most famous band ever places Paul McCartney in high demand in the UK, but like other acts that participated in the Opening Ceremony for the London Summer Olympics, Sir Paul put aside his fame and usual steep performance fees to represent his country at Friday night's ceremony.  McCartney, and a handful of other performers, were paid a single British pound (about $1.57) for their performances Friday, well below the millions of dollars McCartney makes in a typical stadium gig.  The performers were paid the nominal fee to make the contracts binding, though the performances were essentially volunteer work for those who took part.
