Renowned Motown bassist Bob Babbitt, who rose to prominence as a member of the Funk Brothers, passed away in Nasville on Monday at the age of 74. According to a statement from Babbitt's son, he had been under hospice care in the months leading up to his death after being diagnosed with brain cancer. As a member of the Funk Brothers, Babbitt laid down bass tracks for some of Motown's biggest stars through the years, and was well known throughout the Motown community. He would gain more widespread recognition, however, when a documentary about the Funk Brothers titled "Standing In the Shadows of Motown" was released.
