Kitty Wells, the trailblazing country music star often referred to as the "Queen of Country Music," passed away Monday morning in her Nashville home. She was 92. Wells, whose real name was Ellen Muriel Deason, became the first-ever female country music star during the 1950s when her classic "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," became the first song from a female artist to top the country music charts. Wells continued to record a number of successful hits into the 1960s, and is cited as a major influence by dozens of female country singers for whom she paved the way. Wells was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976, and presented with a Lifetime Achievement award from the Grammys in 1991. Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
