"American Idol" Outcast Sues MTV for $40 Million

Corey Clark, a singer who reached the final ten in the second season of "American Idol," filed a lawsuit last week against MTV Networks and one of its correspondents, Jim Cantiello.  The singer is accusing the network and Cantiello of libel and defamation of character, and is seeking more than $40 million in damages.  Way back in March 2003, Clark was disqualified from"Idol" after producers learned that he had been charged with three misdemeanors including a battery charge involving his sister.  Clark was later acquitted on two of the charges, pleading guilty to obstruction of justice.  But, according to the lawsuit, Cantiello continued to defame Clark, calling him a liar and calling for a boycott of his music in multiple blog posts.  Requests for comment have gone unanswered by all parties named in the suit.
