EMI Records filed a claim on Monday against Cash Money Records over late payments related to rapper Lil' Wayne's 2008 album, "Tha Carter III." Filed in a US Federal Court in New York's Southern District, the suit alleges that Cash Money has failed to make payments owed for undisclosed music it licensed.
The dispute actually stems from a lawsuit EMI filed against Cash Money in 2009 for "direct, contributory and vicarious inducement of copyright infringement, unfair competition and breach of contract." The two reached a settlement in that case in February 2010, with Cash Money making a $1.5 million payment at the time. But EMI claims that Cash Money never made a second payment due under the settlement, and is seeking the amount owed plus a late payment penalty outlined in the settlement.
