According to a report by Reuters, Islamic militants have stoned to death at least 14 people in Iraq over the past three weeks in what appears to be a campaign against the emo movement popular in western culture. All of the youths were reportedly wearing clothing and hairstyles associated with the sub-culture, which is viewed as homosexual and an expression of Satanism in the Islamic world. According to the report, militants have distributed pamphlets naming 24 more youths that will be killed unless they change the way they dress.
"We strongly warn you, to all the obscene males and females, if you will not leave this filthy work within four days the punishment of God will descend upon you at the hand of the Mujahideen," read the pamphlet that was handed out. The attacks are part of a broader trend of killings of Iraquis believed to be gay over the past six weeks. At least 58 Iraquis have been killed in the wave of violence, almost all from skull fractures resulting from being beaten with rocks and bricks.
