Michael Davis, the bass player for the iconi seventies punk band MC5, passed away Friday after a prolonged bout with liver cancer at the age of 68. Davis was a fine arts student at Wayne State University in Michigan when MC5 recruited him in 1964. The band would release its hypercharged debut album "Kick Out the Jams" some five years later. In addition to his career in music, Davis also co-founded a non-profit organization called Music Is Revolution Foundation, which supports music education in public schools. Davis is survived by three sons and a daughter in addition to his wife, Angela Davis.
