Kevin Poe, a Connecticut-based hacker associated with the collective Anonymous, was arrested on Tuesday and charged in connection with a cyber attack on the official website of KISS bassist Gene Simmons. Poe was indicted in Los Angeles on charges of conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer, and faces a total of 15 years in prison in convicted on both counts.
With the assistance of other Anonymous-linked hackers, Poe launched a five day "denial of service" attack on Simmons' website last October. A denial of service attack is when thousands of requests are sent to a server at the same time in an attempt to overload it, thus shutting it down. It was not made clear why Anonymous targeted Simmons, but he had spoken out against copyright infringement a few days before the attack.
