Count the Black Keys among the bands who have a distaste for digital music providers, as their latest album, "El Camino" has been left off of streaming services like Spotify, Rhapsody, Rdio and others. Spokesmen for the band and several streaming services have declined to comment on the decision. The Black Keys are following in the footsteps of other artists like Coldplay, Mac Miller, Tom Waits, and even Adele, who have also limited the availability of their music on steaming services, making albums and songs available for purchase only.
Spotify provides users with steaming access to thousands of songs for one monthly fee, then pays a small fee of 1.146 cents to labels when a song is streamed. At that rate, it would take about 64 streams for an artist to accumulate the same revenue they earn when a song is purchased for 99 cents from a digital download service like Apple's iTunes.
