A Nashville judge decided in Favor of country singer Tim McGraw on Wednesday in his legal dispute with Curb Records. McGraw is now free to sign with another label, or record independently, after spending his entire career under Curb's direction. A separate trial to determine damages in the case has been scheduled for next July.
Back in May, Curb filed a breach of contract suit against McGraw alleging he had failed to live up to the recording contract he signed with the label, and McGraw counter-sued later that month. The label argued that McGraw had breached the contract by recording material too quickly, an accusation the singer denied. McGraw, meanwhile, claimed the label was using that claim to force him to remain with the label beyond his agreed contract, holding his latest album, Emotional Traffic," hostage in the process.
