Carl Gardner, Sr., the longtime member for the 1950s R&B group, The Coasters, pass away Sunday in Port St. Lucie, Florida after a long bout with congestive hart failure and vascular dementia. He was 83. Gardner is survived by his wife of many years, Veta, and his son Carl, Jr., who took his place in The Coasters when he retired in 2005. Carl was the last surviving founding member of The Coasters, who gained fame in the 1950s with such hits as "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," and "Poison Ivy."
