Irish rock legends U2 and R&B superstar Rihanna are among the artists who will take part in new digital-only album Universal Records is putting out to raise money for the victims of the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th. While the lineup of contributing artists has yet to be filled out, Universal, the world's largest record label, hopes to finalize the album and have it available for purchase by the end of the week. A spokesman for Universal said that the proceeds from the album will go directly to the Japanese Red Cross. Lady Gaga, who is a part of Universal's stable of music icons, is rumored to be involved, even though she has already raised substantial aid for the Japanese victims by selling a special wristband.
