Musician / artist Don Van Vliet, better known as Captain Beefheart, passed away on Friday at the age of 69. The cause of death was announced as complications from multiple sclerosis. Van Vliet was perhaps best known for the 1969 album, "Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. The album was produced by Frank Zappa and was recently ranked number 58 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Van Vliet is survived by his wife of more than 40 years.
