Legendary soul songstress Aretha Franklin has reportedly been diagnosed with a form of pancreatic cancer, according to a report in The Detroit News, who credits "a source familiar with the situation." 

The singer has canceled all of her tour dates through May of 2011 and reportedly had surgery last week for an unknown ailment.  Franklin released a statement calling the surgery successful,though she was visited in the hospital last Friday by Rev. Jesse Jackson and her fans held a prayer vigil in Detroit.

Pancreatic cancer is often fatal, with less than five percent of those diagnosed with the disease going on to live more than five years.
