A judge ordered LimeWire to cease its file-sharing operations in advance of a lawsuit seeking damages from the company for years of copyright infringement. The injunction is considered a significant victory for record labels in their fight against piracy. The RIAA reports that the industry's total sales has declined from $14.5 billion in 1999 to just $7.7 billion in 2009. The civil trial against LimeWire is scheduled to begin in January.
