Former Fugee Wyclef Jean has been ruled ineligible to run for Haiti's upcoming presidential election, based on a requirement for candidates to have established five consecutive years of residency before the election. Jean reportedly plans on contesting the rule, arguing that his role as a roving ambassado for Haiti expempts him from the rule. The Brooklyn-raised Jean posted the following message on his Twitter account yesterday:
"Tomorrow our lawyers are appealing the decision of the CEP. We have met all the requirements set by the laws. And the law must be respected."
