The struggling US music industry hit a new low for the week ending May 30th, as Nielsen Soundscan's reported 4.984 million albums sold during the week was the lowest total lowest since the company began tracking the data in 1994. By comparison the last week in May, 2009 saw a total of 5.76 million album sales. The highest total recorded was 45.4 million in late December of 2000. The new low is yet another struggle for an industry trying to cope for a society shifting from physical to digital media.
